Meet The Team

Huw moved from Somerset to become Estate Manager of the Sundorne Castle Estate in December 2022 after 23 years working in the horseracing industry. He studied at the Royal Agricultural College at Cirencester and progressed his career as a Chartered Surveyor and Agricultural Valuer.
Huw holds professional qualifications in surveying and valuation and has long experience in managing people, buildings and land. He is passionate about the countryside and nature – and a keen sports fan.
Huw is delighted to have joined the team at Sundorne Castle and to be continuing a career working in the countryside in a job that has great variety day-to-day, and to be able to enjoy the beautiful Shropshire countryside and the market town of Shrewsbury.

John studied Rural Land Management at the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester, and worked in Devon for three years, where he qualified as a Chartered Surveyor. He is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) and specialises in the operations within rural estates.
Outside of his work at the Sundorne Castle Estate, John helps his family run a herd of 80 commercial suckler cows. He admits that often tends to mean long nights spring calving.
Since joining the Sundorne Castle Estate in October 2024, John has been impressed with the talented professionals who work here - and their ability to consistently maintain momentum in tackling a range of challenges.

Nela has more than ten years’ experience in the finance sector, specialising in Trust accounts with special expertise in financial analysis, budgeting and strategic planning. She joined the Sundorne Castle Estate in 2023 and brings great precision to her role.
Nela is a mother of two energetic boys, who keep her busy outside of work. When she does have time to herself, she likes to spend it gardening – nurturing plants and watching them grow.
She says she loves the versatility of her job, keeping her engaged, inspired and always learning.

Suzy has worked on the Estate since 2021 and has a background in business, working in sales, liaising closely with customers to bring product-related solutions to clients and adding value to their businesses.
She says her marketing and social media role with the Sundorne Castle Estate gives her a variety of different jobs and is always interesting. She has wide experience in the veterinary and animal-care sectors and holds qualifications in animal and veterinary care and is a qualified first aider. In addition, she holds a diploma in content marketing, including social media.
Outside of work, Suzy is a mother to two boys and, when time allows, she loves showing her Welsh Mountain Ponies. She also has a keen interest in her family's history and heritage of Sundorne Castle Estate. Other hobbies include reading, photography, and painting.

Sue joined the Sundorne Castle Estate in January 2025 and has a background in quality management and customer service and administration, including a spell at Kew Gardens. She holds a range of professional qualifications including Forestry Stewardship Council certification and has undergone health and safety training.

Outside of work Sue is a keen walker and loves plants – both wild and cultivated. She is also a keen photographer and wildlife watcher. She enjoys regular communication with others inside and outside the Estate and learning more about land and Estate management.

Jamie has worked for the Estate since 2018 after more than a decade in poultry management and two-and-half years in solar farm construction. He is qualified in the operation of telescopic telehandlers and fork-lift truck driving and holds an NVQ Level 3 in land-based operations.
Outside of work Jamie is interested in a variety of country sports and builds and flies model aeroplanes.
He loves meeting and talking to people through his work at the Fishery and on the Sundorne Castle Estate more widely, dealing with anglers and Estate tenants.

Martyn has worked on the Sundorne Castle Estate since 2005 and is a former company director with a tyre business.
He manages the ancient woodland on the estate, works as a hedge layer and makes charcoal. Martyn holds qualifications in woodland management, coppicing and the safe operation of chainsaws. He is also a qualified first aider.
He takes a close interest in the willow growing on the Estate, nurturing the plants from saplings to mature trees that are sold to be made into cricket bats. He also looks after the many rights of way across the Estate for the benefit of the public who walk and ride them.
Outside of work Martyn enjoys fishing, working his gundogs, maintaining his home and garden and taking part in wood carving and wood crafts. Martyn loves working in woodlands and admiring the wildlife, from the deer to the varied birdlife, which he also monitors to ensure the Estate is enhancing its biodiversity.

Simon joined the Estate in 2019 and has a background in farming, construction and process engineering, with 40 years’ experience in construction and property maintenance. He holds a City and Guilds qualification in agriculture and general building.
Outside of work Simon enjoys country sports and motorcycling. He values the variety of his work on the Estate and sets great store by approaching all tasks with the right attitude to the little things which, he says, makes a big difference.

Stacey joined the Sundorne Castle Estate in November 2021 and has 14 years’ experience in the property sector in a wide variety of roles including in planning, property sales and property management in the rental sector.
She brings a wealth of experience in rental compliance, documentation and rural property management to the role and has a good knowledge of rural issues, having grown up in a rural area.
She studied history at university and gained an honours degree in the subject. Stacey maintains a great passion for the subject, and in particular, the history of the Sundorne Castle Estate. She relishes working with the Estate team.
